Anandamide Psychedelicatessen. A restaurant? Not exactly. More like a one-of-a-kind mecca for vegan chocolate and dessert, packed with raw and superfood ingredients. Found in downtown Long Beach, amidst a handful of vegan restaurants; Anandamide distinguishes itself as a one-stop for the conscious dessert-lover.
Take one look at their array of chocolate and confectioneries on display and you know they aren’t messing around here – banana, mango, and guava butter truffles, salted maple cream and coconut cacao bars, lucuma (a tropical super fruit, I learned!) mango white chocolate bars. Wow. Lucky for me, Justin, the chocolatier himself is here today, happy to guide me through the different selections here.
The pure Ecuadorian cacao truffle with banana – mature, refined, packing a punch with just a hint of sweetness. The fruity truffles – absolutely delicious. Such a unique blend of flavor from one bite.
The salted maple cream and vanilla butter fudge bars – perfect texture, rich and creamy, satisfying beyond belief! And as I try one, I can see a worker cutting the next batch just 6 feet away, glancing back happy to see me enjoying one.
Also offering, ultra rich superfood smoothies, fermented vegetable (a fermented vegetable sushi even!), and juice.
Not to mention the psychedelic and inviting decor – checkered squares, bright blue stripes, old fashioned scale and telephone – quite the wonderland.
